2D ECHO Cardiography (TTE & TEE)

What Is 2D ECHO Cardiography (TTE & TEE)?
2D Echocardiography, often called 2D Echo, is a non-invasive imaging test that uses ultrasound to create detailed images of your heart. It helps doctors see the heart’s structure and function, including its chambers, valves, and blood flow.
- Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE)
- Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE)
- When Should You Get a 2D Echo?
- What to Expect
- Preparing for Your Appointment
- What it is: The most common type of echocardiogram, where a device called a transducer is placed on your chest to capture images of your heart.
- How it works: The transducer sends sound waves through your chest and into your heart. The waves bounce back to create images.
- Why it’s done: Used to diagnose heart conditions, check heart function, and monitor ongoing heart issues.
- What it is: A more detailed type of echocardiogram, where a special transducer is guided down your esophagus (the tube connecting your mouth to your stomach) to get closer to your heart.
- How it works: The transducer sends sound waves from within your esophagus, providing clearer images of the heart.
- Why it’s done: Used when clearer images are needed, especially for detecting blood clots, infections, or structural heart problems.
- Symptoms of Heart Problems: If you experience chest pain, shortness of breath, or irregular heartbeats.
- Monitoring Heart Conditions: If you have a known heart condition that needs regular monitoring.
- Pre-Surgery Checks: Before undergoing certain surgeries, to ensure your heart is healthy.
- TTE Procedure: You lie on an examination table, and a gel is applied to your chest. The transducer is moved across your chest to capture images.
- TEE Procedure: You may be given a mild sedative to help you relax. The transducer is guided down your esophagus to capture detailed heart images.
- TTE: No special preparation is needed.
- TEE: You may need to avoid eating or drinking for a few hours before the test. Our team will provide specific instructions.
